For both the 2017 Curriculum and 2022 OMST Curriculum, specialty training in occupational medicine requires trainees in approved training posts to pass two examinations. The second of these is the MFOM Part 2 examination.
The MFOM Part 2 examination is also available to doctors who are not in approved training posts, as a route to Associateship of the Faculty, subject to meeting specific eligibility criteria.
The MFOM Part 2 examination is comprised of:
The SBA and OSCE examination components are marked separately.
Candidates are required to pass both the SBA and OSCE in order to pass the MFOM Part 2 examination.
On a candidate’s first attempt at the MFOM Part 2 examination, the SBA and OSCE must both be taken in the same diet.
If a candidate passes the SBA paper, the candidate’s pass in the SBA will be banked and the candidate will not resit it.
If a candidate passes the OSCE, the candidate’s pass in the OSCE will be banked and the candidate will not resit it.
Passes in either the SBA or OSCE can be banked for up to six exam attempts.
If a candidate does not pass the SBA or the OSCE, on their first attempt, the candidate can apply to re-sit.
The number of re-sit attempts relates to the number of diets in which the candidate attempts the SBA and/or OSCE.
First attempt at the MFOM Part 2 examination: £1,240
SBA re-sit: £620
OSCE re-sit: £620
Please note that the information on this page is applicable to all MFOM Part 2 examination candidates, regardless of whether they are following the 2017 Curriculum or the 2022 OMST Curriculum.
